The Difference Between Restaurant Sushi and Supermarket Sushi

When people are introduced to sushi, the first sushi many of them try are the supermarket rolls. This is unfortunate, because it’s a poor representation of proper sushi you can find at a place like our Bothell Japanese restaurant. If your only experience with sushi came plastic-wrapped out of a supermarket, you should seriously consider a restaurant for giving everybody’s favorite Japanese food a second chance.

As any real sushi fan will tell you, there’s no beating fresh sushi. Supermarket sushi cannot be made fresh, because it has to be able to sit on the shelf for longer than is advisable for something made with raw fish. This is why you’re mostly going to be finding rolls like cucumber rolls and California rolls with imitation crab in your supermarket; neither of these contain raw fish, and neither of these deliver a really satisfying sushi experience. You’re also getting dried, processed nori, which lacks much of the flavor and health benefits of restaurant-style nori. Treat yourself right and get your sushi from Sushi Hana!
