Three Cheers for Chirashi!

Sushi can sneak up to you in unexpected ways at our Japanese restaurant in Bothell. As the term “sushi” technically refers to the vinegared rice that it is traditionally made from, you may be surprised as to what falls under this categorization. There are, of course, the bite-sized sushi varieties, like your nigiri and your rolls, but there are also the much larger incarnations, like chirashi.

Chirashi, or chirashizushi, resembles a Japanese donburi more than its other sushi cousins. It consists of a full bowl of sushi rice, topped with fish, vegetables, or any of a large number of other foods. The word “chirashi” translates to “scattered”, aptly describing the colorful array of ingredients that traditionally decorate it.

Contrary to popular belief, the most common chirashizushi in Japan is topped entirely with vegetables. At Sushi Hana, you can enjoy yours with a pleasing spread of sushi-grade fish, so come and try a bowl today!
