Donburi is a hearty, delicious favorite at our Bothell Japanese restaurant. Though it comes in many forms, it generally consists of a bowl of rice topped with some variety of meat. In Japanese, the word donburi is just a general term for “bowl”, but over time it also came to describe the classic dish that bears its name.
The name of a donburi dish is usually made by taking the word for the meat that is being used and adding the “-don” suffix to the end. “Katsudon”, for example, might be used to name a donburi topped with katsu. “Unagi donburi” is often shortened to “unadon”. And if you see “tendon” on the menu, don’t let it turn your stomach; that’s just rice topped with tempura.
Unagi, chicken, and tempura, all of these are available in donburi form at Sushi Hana. Come and try one for yourself!
