What is Futomaki?

In Japanese, the word futomaki translates to “fat roll”. They use this term to describe certain kinds of larger maki sushi. These rolls are generally around two inches in diameter, featuring several main ingredients instead of the more traditional single piece of fish. Most American-style sushi is futomaki, as stronger, more varied flavors tend to appeal to Western tastes more than the subtler flavors of the simpler nigiri and maki sushi.

At our Bothell Japanese restaurant, you can find numerous delicious examples of futomaki. Try a house roll, a Vegas roll, a dragon roll, a garlic lover roll, the classic California roll, or any of our many other options.
